CF WORLD RECORD 2007 : Canopy Relative Work or CRW. It is a skydiving discipline involving 2 or more parachutes linking up to form formations made up of multiple parachutes. The 2007 CF WORLD RECORD involved 14 countries and 100 parachutes to create the worlds largest parachute formation Nov. 21st, 2007 at 11:25 AM in Lake Wales, Florida.

The effort utilized 5 aircraft, the first was a small 9 way base exiting at roughly 20,000 feet wearing bottles of bailout oxygen. This group was meet by a plane of 27 skydivers exiting at 18,000 feet; they also required supplemental oxygen up till exit but did not carry along any extra bailout bottles. The 3rd group meet the formation at 16,000 feet and 2 final aircraft dropped the remaining jumpers at 13,000 feet not requiring supplemental oxygen and completed the 100-way formation.

The formation was 290 feet (88 meters) tall and 175 feet (53 meters) wide. (The size of a football field) The formation weighed 20,388 pounds (9,230 kilos). In comparison 6 Ford Mustangs weigh only 19,500 pounds. A 747-400 jet is only 231 feet long. The Wright brother's first flight was almost one-third the distance as the formation is tall. Miami Air Traffic Control Center monitored the formation and rerouted air traffic around the immense formation.

The entire effort was documented in HD video and digital stills and authenticated by certified judges on the ground.

The following pictures document the World Record effort from practice jumps starting on Nov. 15th through till the two record attempts on the 21st. The actual record pictures are titled CRW_WR_Bryan_Scott_000, CRW_WR_Bryan_Scott_487 (these are pictures of the first completed record) and CRW_WR_Bryan_Scott_534_WR2 was the second attempt to match the first. Only pictures CRW_WR_Bryan_Scott_000 and CRW_WR_Bryan_Scott_487 were ultimately authenticated as the new world record and the 2nd heroic attempt later that day was hindered by an open grip.

Many thanks to all involved, my memories of your companionship and camaraderie will be treasured always.
